- Kampong Khleang Floating Village: is worth visiting for an authentic, into Cambodian life, also where you can observe daily life, including fishing, smoking fish, and repairing nets, rather than a tourist-only setup. The village features impressive wooden houses built on 6–7 meter high stilts, which appear to float during the rainy season and tower above the ground in the dry season, and a vibrant, traditional fishing community on the Tonle Sap Lake.
Scenic Boat Tours: Jump onto the motorboat then trip through the stilt houses, past a floating pagoda, and out to the vast Tonle Sap Lake, offering diverse landscapes.
- Spean Kampong Kdei (or Spean Praptos): offers a unique glimpse into 12th-century Khmer engineering, as one of the longest and best-preserved ancient laterite bridges in Southeast Asia. Making it a perfect quick stop to take photos, walk across the 20+ arches, or explore underneath in the dry season.
- Sambor Prei Kuk: is worth visiting as a serene, UNESCO-listed, 7th-century pre-Angkorian capital, features over a hundred, mostly brick, temples including rare octagonal towers that are unique in Southeast Asia. This site offers a peaceful experience where nature and history blend, with many ruins enveloped by tree roots.
Afternoon: Relax and enjoy for lunch.
- Phnom Santok Stone carvings: offers a unique, authentic glimpse into ancient Khmer artistry and living traditions, featuring 16th-century rock-cut Buddha statues, and showcasing centuries-old, hand-carved heritage and active, local artisan workshops
- Skun market: is a unique stop famous for its “fried spider” delicacies, offering travelers a chance to sample deep-fried tarantulas, insects, and other exotic snacks. It is a bustling, authentic roadside, cultural, and culinary hub often used as a rest stop, providing a glimpse into local life, fresh fruits like pineapples, and traditional, rustic Cambodian food.
- Udong Mountain (Phnom Oudong): on the way to Phnom Penh is ideal for experiencing a key historical, cultural, and scenic stop. As the former capital for over 200 years from 1618 to 1866, it features stunning, colorful stupas holding royal remains, panoramic views of rural Cambodia, and a sacred, quiet atmosphere compared to the city.
